we are only checking in at 3pm.
and yenping has church so she will come at arnd 3pm.

after that we would go for bowling?

1) Maths Holiday Worksheet

2) Chinese Lit
Read the book and fill in the worksheet.

There will be a test on this in Term 2 Week 1.

3) Art
*Remember to file your notes up. Any coloured file will do.
For those who might need the info, or are just too lazy to refer to his/her own notes,

Theme: Relaxing at Home (Bedroom, toilet, Starkbucks Coffee cafe or Mac etc. BUT IT HAS TO BE INSIDE SOMETHING. No outdoors, like open fields etc. If you want swimming, INSIDE the swimming complex.)

Materials: A3 size (Drawing block) or greater size (If you want to be like that Chuck Close guy.)

Requirements:

- Use ALL artist's reference seen so far and Imagery of a Home (Research in sketchbook first as this is for Subject matter and response marks. Basically, this means you DRAW IN YOUR SKETCHBOOK FIRST. Then you transfer it to the actual drawing material you're using.)

- Use ALL or MOST of the techniques learnt so far. (pencil shading, marker dotting, painting etc) Remember to EXPRESS the THEME. (Elements/Principles and Materials mark)

- Paste your reference on the back of the paper and write comments on how you choose the imagery, prepare the composition and execute the work. Your name, class, index number are required as well. Feel free to add your own unique title too! Do these at the top right hand corner on the back of your work.

Deadline: After Term 1 break. There will be penalty for late submission of work.

They need to create 2 mindmaps to draw connections between what they have learnt in Sec One Ancient History to the history of Singapore before 1819. They write two paragraphs in PEE format to explain the links between Sec One Ancient History and pre-1819 Singapore.

Just a little update okay? (in number form so its neat XD)

CLEANLINESS.
1. The class, yes its super dirty, as Venise pointed out. good job Venise. I suggest we ALL help to keep it clean, not just the people on duty.
2. The notice boards! omg. they need serious help. Will the welfare committee or ANYONE with staplers and colored paper please try and patch them back?
3. The whiteboard. SOME of you have been seriously dirtying it. With marker and spray paint. that is not RIGHT. i KNOW you can wipe it off, but you are "vandilising" the board at the same time. so please STOP.
4. TABLES. our tables used to be colorful, with something behind the plastic sheets. please try and restore the former glory of our tables.
5. table POSITIONS. i noticed that there is a constant distance between the first and second rows, which results in a cramped up space in the back. PLEASE try and align your tables properly.

HOMEWORK
1. Geography - Reflections (Individual) by this Monday. Also, the COMPREHENSION thingy on population that was given out. By this Monday as well.
2. English - Corrections for all 5 components to be submitted by Monday. Compile all together.

lols, looking at the state of our classroom, i really think we wouldn't get the zhong zhen jing shen jiang liao. The classroom is like so dirty and clealiness takes up 60% of the marks, if we continue like that arhs, we can all say bye bye to the award liao. Hi Class,

All of you did extremely well yesterday!!! Ms Chia is happy with the class performance.... We have spent lots of effort on the bazaar preparations which include putting up the stalls, painting banners and preparation of prizes.... I'm sure of all you had fun yesterday.

I'll like to thank the class for being so supportive and co-operative during and after the bazaar, especially taking time to clear up the stalls after the event.... I hope that the class has become more cohesive after the event...

Okay,so CCHMS wasn't the best,but I do think our participants did well.

Well done,Zhiying and Weiliang!

Weiliang,way to go for not giving up. I don't know what the others think about it,but I'm proud of you. (*cough* Even though you used that as an excuse to kick my chair...)

You guys did your best and that's great.

I hope we all learn a lesson from this.

Even if it seems all hope is lost,go on until the end. Don't give up!

Even though you guys didn't do anything astounding,CCHMS cheered for you guys till the end.

We're proud because our students did not give up!

Second issue: Class Attitude

I would like to thank Tomomi for bringing out the issues that have been arising in class.

1EP: Miss Chia has been with you for more than 10 weeks already... I can see a significant change in the class behavior and attitude. I have no doubts that the class is very enthusiastic and responsive, however, these positive traits need to be put into good use...

I noticed that the class has become very distracted and definitely not on task recently. In fact, I am not the only teacher who has pointed this out... I are very concerned about the class attitude. Let me state some examples, not submitting homework on time, not bringing textbooks during lesson.... and most importantly not paying attention in class and distracting the other classmates...

I would like some of you to reflect on your attitude in class and behavior towards your classmates... How would you feel if you are the one to be singled out and be criticized.... I want the class to be mindful of the language that you use towards others.... Please note that the school, Miss Ho and myself will not tolerate any verbal or physical bullying in school...

The entire class will have to spend 2 years with each other... Let's make 1EP 2008 a memorable class by being respectful, friendly and open with each other....

Firstly,about our class being problematic.

I've seen it with my own eyes,classmates screaming and swearing. And the rest of us who want some quiet time,just a few minutes to listen to the announcements,can only sit by a side helplessly.

If we voice up,no one listens or they just scream "Who cares?"

Who cares? We care.

During CMP,I saw quite a number of 1Empatians laughing and talking,living in their own world.

They made fun of the lesson and the ones who wanted to learn the Malay language had to try our best to block out the extra noise.

One example of the people?

Me.

I was sitting there yet all I heard was laughter and some weird jokes about Mas Selamat.

Anyway,about what Anna said about racism and such.

I know that. You feel really hurt yet all they do is laugh and think of it as some amusing joke that anyone would laugh at.

You want to tell them it isn't that way and somehow you feel like they had just hit your heart really hard.

My friends in my primary school loved to make disturbing comments just cause they heard weird stuff about Japanese girls.

You may think "Hey,you're not even a real Japanese or anything. You're like,only half!" but still,I have it in me,don't I?

And even now,in 1EP,I still hear comments like "Go back to Japan" or "Japanese Tofu" and such.

Look,I am BOTH Japanese and Chinese.

And I DON'T know where my home in Japan is or HOW it looks like.

Honestly,if it wasn't for the fact I knew I had a Japanese father,I'm not much different from any other Chinese.

And yes,my mom gave birth to me in Singapore.

I am a Singaporean,so stop telling me to go back to Japan cause I don't belong there.

I am NOT a prostitute,I value my virginity so don't insult me with that.

Secondly,Maths.

Ms Chia,are we allowed to submit the scanned work?

Or will we still be given a 0 for that?

Thirdly,Seating Arrangement. (Yes Ms Ho,I'm rather stubborn and persistant.)

Junzhang keeps talking to Mengsiew and he even exchanged seats with Jianheng just so he could talk to her.

All I could hear was those two talking away the whole time during class.

That day during History class,Junzhang and Jianheng exchanged seats,so I was sitting with Jianheng.

They kept talking about maplestory and stuff like that,NOTHING related to what we were studying about.

When I turn around and tell them off,Junzhang says "That's why I don't want to sit with her. I'll die."

Like,hey.

YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO BE STUDYING,NOT SWEET TALKING WITH GIRLS ABGOUT GAMES!

Hey Class,

2 important things I would like to bring to your attention:-

1) Extension of Hey math deadline

The deadline for the 2 quizzes, namely real numbers and number patterns are extended. For those who have not submitted at all, please go and do it by 27th march to ensure that the marks are registered.

For those who got zero marks due to errors in submission, I'm getting the teacher in charge to see if you can redo again. I'll inform the class once I receive any news from the teacher

2) Checking of Math file by HOD (IMPORTANT!!!)

The math dept HOD would like to checking the Math files of the following register no:
3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24

For those lucky numbers, please get the files ready by Tuesday (25/03) , file in everything including the recent common test papers. (All signatures must be there).

For the rest of the class, you will also need to submit the file on Thursday (27/03). Please file everything properly and in order as filing constitutes 5% of the CA marks.

Hi class,

Regarding the incident that happened recently, Miss Chia wants to let the class know that you are definitely not the so called 'warned' class in sec 1.... whatever that means....

You are a very enthusiastic bunch, responsive and cheerful and I'm happy to be the assistant form as well as Math teacher for 1EP. However, I echoed what Miss Ho mentioned regarding some of the points such as the need to be sensitive in class as well as be attentive and respectful to one another and the teachers...

Let not the small incident disturb the weekend ahead.... If there are any nagging things you would like to mention... we can do it on Monday during interaction period... Unfortunately, I won't be there as I will be bringing the table tennis girls for national competition. But keep your spirits high... and see you guys on Monday

hey guys, thank you for sharing your thoughts with us by blogging it down on our class blog.

I am very glad that you guys care so much for the class. :) Mengshuen, dun put thoughts into my head k? Seriously what did you think i was thinking about? heh heh

I definately understand how you feel when you heard that comment about the class. Please allow me to give a few plausible reasons to the entire class.

My guess is that, many of offences committed by us are minor ones that do not warrant a HUGE punishment, thus the warning was given and the student committing the offense goes off.

However the student, did not heed the warning and commit the same offence again. When this cycle repeats, it becomes defiance. This is a much bigger offense and people will take notice (ie no more closing of one eye, 2 eye or what la).

I know our class is close knitted, vocal and lively. 1Empathy2008 is probably one of the best class I have seen. But I dun deny that there are some points we can improve on.

1) being on task

Being on task means being focused in the real thing at the real place at the right time. What I truly mean is to be doing the right things at the appropriate times. When we are playing, we shuld go all out to have fun and not let anything dampen our spirits. While during lessons, we should be working at our very hardest! That will disallow any 事倍功半 situation. Currently you guys are indeed not on task while studying in school. Next time let's find someone to measure the amount of time taken for you guys to settle down and to quieten down to listen to whoever is speaking in front. (lalala i know i am naggy. I die die must make mention that u guys dunwan to listen to me!!!) I know my 1EP is a smart class, even if most of you din put in much effort, you will still do relatively well. So why work hard you may ask, which brings me to my next point, being respectful.

2) being respectful

I am sure all of you dislike people who are disrespectful to you and you arent happi when people belittle you. (I hope my assumption is right, tat you guys want respect too) I absolutely dislike it when people are disrespectful. It need not be disrespect for me, i wun be happi if i see people belittling you guys or treat you guys with disrespect.

However, is respect given automatically to anyone? NO. THAT I AM SURE. respect needs to be earned. How do we earn it? By being respectful to others too. Remember virtues beget virtues, therefore if you respect others, people will do the same! Class, you cannot blame the counsellor for when he/she finds fault with you. Why? By improper grooming (not following the school rules), you are not respecting the school! Since the action shows disrespect to the school, why would any of the student counsellor body and the teacher body show respect to you?

similarly when you guys dun respect the person speaking at the front of the class, or else not respecting the teachers, why should he/she give u any face or any respect? of course not! that's why all the shouting done by the teachers and so on.

3) Sensitivity

Class the last point i will wan to point out is sensitivity towards others. I know who are the ones mentioned in Anna's post.

You guys need to understand that everybody is different. We experience different things and events, and belong to different cultures. That makes us who we are. Please think thru this scenario. How would you feel if someone insults something that you hold dear in your heart? For example, someone insults 1empathy2008? Will you feel angry and upset? I know you guys will be angry. Just look at the post mengshuen and anna made.

Let me cite an example. I know someone in our class was very upset and shout vulgarities when another student in our class said that his/her primary school suz big time. He/she retaliated by shouting loudly and chasing after that student who insult the primary that was so dear to him/her. Maybe the student who made the insult was being cheeky. Maybe he thought it was fun. MAYBE it was a DARE.

But before the comment was made by the student, some thought should be put first! Is the comment logical? What is the basis? Is there any truth in it? Are you being insensitive/rude by saying it? Also are you being silly to just make the comment just because you were being dared to do it? What will the consequences be after making the comment?

And to the person daring the student to make the comment. Are you even thinking about the consequences of your words and actions?

There is onli a thin fine line between rude/candid and insensitive.

Finally, Miss Ho wants to end by saying that I will go and find out more regarding what has happened. But I wan you guys to think thru what I have said. DO NOT compromise your stature just for a moment of fun and cheekiness. Because, you lose it once, you lose the respect of others forever.

Hey again people. yes, im blogging more and more often on the class blog.

I kinda agree (surprisingly) with MengShuen. I kinda think that the teacher was wrong to say , we are the most warned class in sec one. This was - FYI - when all the other classes were noisier than us, and we were simply minding our own business. I think this isnt fair to us. A little biased dont you think?

Actually, i have not heard much rumours about our class from my friends from other classes. As a matter of fact, they actually praise US, saying we are talented, and good, and all the good stuff. (you know.. pro.) Empathy, just to let you know, we are kinda well-liked by our peers, but seemingly rowdy for teachers.

I agree a little with the rowdy part. Just now at CMP, everyone shouldnt have been talking. We were all there to learn, and i hope we can respect each other more. Furthermore, i will not name anyone, but some of us were saying makan tae gundu babi and other malay phrases that are insulting. As we are not malay, these phrases practically mean nothing to us. Though i myself am not malay, i have been so-called a victim of these things. Did you know... My ex-classmates, thought all or MOST of the filipinos were maids. This form of, seemingly joking, critiscism actually hurts deep down inside, though we may not know it.

I thought i'd just add this in here, but im sorry for shouting at people lately. Im just so annoyed sometimes. It gets on my nerves how you all can make fun of things like Mas Selamat's escape, as well as other races (e.g. makan tae gundu babi). Let me tell you, Mas Selamat's escape = not funny. If he obtained a weapon, that could be it for the clean record of Singapore police. It's terrifying to be in such a situation where anyone could be in danger, simply just walking down the street.

Im gonna stop crapping right now, before this post gets too long. But, final words...

Sorry to everyone i shouted at, these past few days, weeks, months, whatever. But just to let you know, i dont shout at people for random reasons. and im sorry if i was being bossy or whatever.
Im proud to be in 1EP, because even in this short term ,i feel closer to all of you than i ever did with my classmates of 3 years. Stay united now, specially since there seems to be rumours about us going around. Don't worry so much about it. It'll pass. If it doesnt, then i guess we'll just have to behave better. I hope ya'll will feel better about all these things soon.

Okay. i know it's late. and VERY late to ENGXUAN, but tomorrow is YenPing's bday.

and im so so very sorry because i forgot.

Hey peeps,

it is the start of a new term and miss ho wants to make my speech. hahaha (okie. not funni, u say)

seriously, the new term has started and many changes are being put in place. The new rules, the bazaars and the new curriculum. All of us are busy with the Capital "B" and trying very hard to keep our heads above water. I know that you guys are making the effort to keep the class close knitted and striving to do your very best. =)

Miss ho is apologetic for leashing out at you guys earlier this morning. =(

I seriously meant to just inform you guys about the announcements and things to be done. However, when I see how you guys arent on task nor focused nor paying attention, it becomes difficult for me not to be upset.

Although I am your form teacher, I do not spend a lot of time with you guys due to the subject I am teaching. It makes me feel very bad when other teachers come up to me during the day to tell me about my kids' misbehaviour or that their attitude and enthusiasm towards school and studies are back sliding. At first I thought that they were too quick to judge or make conclusions on our class, my kids but I slowly came to realise that there may be truth in their words.

I am seriously perplexed, as I do not know whether to come down on you guys harshly or just choose to be oblivious to the apparent problems in class. Do put urself in my shoes, how will you feel when the people whom you are close to turn out to be very different from what you thought they are

Maybe the events in school has influenced us but we cannot let the many events shape us in the wrong way! Class: let's have a short discussion during the math lesson tomorrow to see what are the problems that you faced using the e-lesson.

For those of you who have not submitted the assignment online, please print out download the worksheet of the particular e-lesson, showing all the your workings and solutions... I'm not sure if the teacher in charge allows this. I'll check and let you know after school reopens.

This is an important announcement. I've gone online to check the progress for math assignment.

There are 11 of you who have not submitted the assignment for number patterns. Please go into Hey math and complete it today though the deadline is tomorrow, cos you will not have the time to do so tomorrow....... The marks for the assignments will be included in the CA so please take it seriously....

Hi Tomomi,

Are you referring to the Real numbers assignments? I noticed that for those questions that you need to type in the solutions, there is an operation panel which include some symbols for you to use.

In case you require things such as fraction signs, you can try using e.g. a/b or a-b/c (denotes mixed numbers). Not the best way to do but I guess good enough to hand in for assignments. Other symbols, you can try copying from the symbol list in most PC under system tools/ character maps.

Number lines is a problem, you can scan it or use MS word, but the file cannot be too large, else i don't think it can be attached successfully.

After all these assignments, maybe the class can give me a list of problems that you have encountered while trying to use the e-learning site. This is so that I can feedback to the teacher in charge to see what are the improvements we can make.

Any other things that I can help? Try raising it in the blog and I'll try to respond as much over this weekend!

Any of you done it? I have no idea who is able to save CCHMS's lake. xD
It's probably only polluted by the s*!t of the living things around there (I have no idea whether the students do anything like that there in urgent cases...) and some random balls kicked into the lake and stuff like that.

Game trials
Date: 27 Mar (Thurs),
Venue: respective classrooms.

Please remind your students that we only need to see 1 set of equipment and there should be a demonstration of how the game is to be played.

There is no need to "beautify" the equipment for this trial.

The LMs will be going round to check out the games.
